Easy-To-Prepare Cough Home Remedies

Any person who has cough should drink lots of fluid, including water and healthy juices. Herbal teas also help relieve cough because these contain sedative expectorants. On top of fluids, eating fruits and vegetables likewise proves helpful in preventing cough, but make sure to steer clear of starchy produce such as bananas and potatoes because these only worsen the condition.

1. Red Clover Syrup

Prepare red clover blossoms, a pint of honey, and a pint of water. Mix honey and water, and heat the mixture to boil. Add the red clover blossoms and simmer for about 15 minutes and let it cool. Once cooled, you can refrigerate the mixture and take 2 tablespoons of this syrup three to four times daily until such time your cough goes away.

2. Cabbage Soup

One of the most effective cures for cough is cabbage. To prepare, you need to boil about two cups of water and then put an entire cabbage into it. Let it boil for a few more minutes and then simmer. Drinking this soup at night is most recommended, although if the cough is a bit severe you can take it twice daily, in the morning and at night. Cabbage soup is ancient cure for whooping cough and should be effective in ridding you of your coughing problem.

3. Pomegranate

You probably haven’t heard of this yet but pomegranate is an excellent remedy for cough. What you need to do is grind the pomegranate rind and mix with a teaspoon of rock salt. Add a very small amount of water and roll until it forms into a pill. Suck on it three times daily and in no time you should be relieved of cough. You can also opt to mix ground garlic with pomegranate juice, and drink it twice daily if you find the pill too strong for you.

4. Mustard Oil

One of the oldest cough home remedies is the use of mustard oil. For children, you can use this oil to massage on the chest area. This also helps asthmatic patients, by the way, to relieve them of chest congestion. When you mix mustard oil with rock salt, the effects are even better.
