Nokia has long been one of the most well-respected names in business phone. While they may not have the global market shares that Apple and Samsung can brag about, there’s no doubt that Nokia holds its own in the smartphone market, which have been enjoying great fame in its reliability, affordability, and its highly impressive features.
The company seems to enjoy pushing the boundaries in terms of features Nokia currently is one of the frontrunners for best camera capabilities. Apart from the infamous Sony Xperia Z on the market capable of capturing a big-screen-ready movie in its impressive camera specs, the Nokia Lumia series have always been known for having packed more megapixels in its phones. Granted, cameras might not be our first concerns when it comes to looking for a serviceable business phone, but seeing Nokia’s new Lumia phones’ camera capabilities may swing the odds to their favor.
The New Lumia 1020
Launched last July on AT&T’s exclusive contracts, the Lumia 1020 was revealed by Stephen Elop while onstage in New York. This has been something nearly everyone in the tech industry has been expecting, but when it finally arrived, it certainly wasn’t a flop. The Lumia 1020 was not all that detached from predecessors 920 and 925. In fact, beyond a few huge changes apart from the major camera pixels, it could be a repetition of the older two.
There are of course improvements in the 1020 microphone performance has been improved, and everyone can agree that this is just very practical considering what phones have originally been invented for: talking. Clarity of speech is important to properly communicate, and this goes especially important during VoIP calls, as sometimes online call connections are difficult enough to understand without a weak mic to add to the problem.
But no matter what anyone says about the 1020, the most noteworthy feature it has is still the camera with the staggering megapixels.
The 1020’s camera
Some DLSRs don’t even go up this high: at 41mp, with a Pureview sensor, there is little doubt that this would be one of the most impressive cameras across the landscape of smartphones everywhere. This powerful capturing device has its own image stabilization, 6-lens Zeiss optics, and a xenon flash. If anything, you could say that this was a camera masquerading as a smartphone.
It definitely is the biggest selling point for the 1020. The emphasis placed upon the camera’s capability proves that if a user is looking for a device that will powerfully capture photographs, and still be capable of being a smartphone at the same time, this is the best bet.
What can it do? It can shoot 38mp still photographs in two different aspect ratios: 4:3 and 16:9. While it’s capturing this image, it simultaneously takes a five megapixel image, which could be used for faster uploading online once the photograph has been taken. The large megapixels of each photographs capture more detail and will make using various photo editing apps an even bigger joy to have since the images would be high quality and therefore excellent for editing.
In the video end, the Lumia can capture true HD videos in 1080p, and can zoom in from 4x to 6x with the 720p setting. Because of the camera’s capabilities, Nokia has the phone bundled with the Pro Camera app, which would have the Lumia behave like a DSLR in terms of commands adjusting the flash, focus, ISO, white balance, shutter speed, and exposure.
If you’re looking for a great camera and a phone, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the best of both worlds.
